It took three days, but it finally happened. “Mom, I’m bored. There’s nothing to do!” I knew I couldn’t go through 10 weeks of Summer Break hearing that.
A friend told me about a chore jar someone she knew had started using. I knew my boys wouldn’t do well with just chores in the jar. I added some activity ideas. The rules are simple: If you say you are bored, you pick a stick from the cup. It could be a chore, or an activity. No way or knowing.
It has worked WONDERS so far. They would much rather come up with ideas of things to do on their own, than to risk having to do a chore.
