Hello Fairfax County Moms!
It has been a long time since I came on. While I have been present on Instagram, between COVID-19, Distance Learning, working from home and all the things, life just got away! Anyone else feel the same?
And now, the big question of the Summer….What school option are you choosing for your kiddos for the 2020-2021 school year? The FCPS Return to School Plan offers two options for family: 100% virtual learning (a full school year commitment) or a hybrid model (at least 2 days of in-person instruction and 2 days of home learning). Both models will run Tuesday-Friday. Mondays will be used for teacher planning and individual interventions kiddos may need.
I have a rising 3rd grader and rising Kindergartner. Distance Learning with my older son was okay. He liked going on the computer and doing the one hour of instruction his school offered per day, but getting him to do any extra work was a battle I chose to no longer fight. My younger son refused to do Zoom meetings with his pre-school class and any activity I called “educational” or “school” he also refused.
There are so many pros and cons for each decision, and a family’s decision has to be based on what is best for each individual family and kiddos.
Remember that the deadline for making a decision is JULY 10, 2020. Any family who does not fill out the survey sent by FCPS will automatically be placed in the hybrid model.
Until next time!
